Opposition is the Proof of Progress

Opposition is the Proof of Progress

To all my game changers

I used to think that because my intentions were pure, honorable and good that everyone would see my good works and appreciate it.  In short, everyone would be happy. Can you believe this was not the case. When I was not prepared for it, I got slapped down.  I was rejected like I was shooting a jumper on the court all by myself.  Out of nowhere as my light sought to emerge, the darkness appeared to oppose it. You ever had that happen?  It happened to me more than I wanted.
I didn’t get this revelation till recently after years of being discouraged. The sad news about this is that I just got it.  I have been heading this direction for awhile but now I understand and can share it. Heres’ the important point I want you to grasp.

Opposition is the Proof of Progress.

The first ones that slapped me down were my parents.  Then it was relatives and friends.  And later it was the church.
You too?
Well you know your parents don’t hate you.  They are not your “enemies.” But it sure felt like that.  “How come you don’t support me?” Insert dramatic screaming and conversation here.  For me, my parents were not equipped with the wisdom or vision to see what I was sharing.
They were operating at a survival mode.  What they had done had worked and what I was proposing seemed outside of my “station in life.”  It was grandiose.  It was acting “white.”  OOH went there.
The next time I remember I got the beat down was on similar things.  And it hurt because I expected differently from friends and family.  I learned that I should not give that too much energy or weight either.
As we start to shine, those around you may sometimes feel threatened. You have just shown them what they are not doing and or where it scares them. So they may lash out at you.  “Who does “he” think he is?
When I pastored a church in the Nations Capital, I was opposed for my politics, my faith and my leadership.  I am conservative and have a clear definition of what that is.  I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I don’t follow trends, personalities or traditions unless they are Biblically sound.
I know you know this but they are not really threatened by you; they are actually threatened by their own lack of ability, fears and shortcomings.  You just reminded them that they have settled, quit, stop trying, or failed.
If you don’t quit though, know this.  Nothing can stop what is meant to be. Resist the natural temptation to fight darkness with darkness. Anger with anger. Hate with hate.  Stay away from the dark side.  It is easier.  It is where I come from.  I have survived a lot.  But this will only perpetuate the cycle of suffering and end up bringing you down.
Small minds talk about people.  Average minds talk about events.  Great minds talk about ideas.
It may seem personal, but recognize that it is not. That is powerful.  Then you know that they aren’t really attacking you because it really isn’t about you.
So to attack them back or engage in petty back and forth not only brings you to their level, but it ultimately resolves nothing.

Don’t waste your energy trying to convince people to understand you.  Your time is too valuable to try to prove yourself to people.
Why is it that people with small closed minds always have the loudest mouths?
The more you know yourself, the less you care what others say about you.
In your heart, thank them, bless them, and move on.

Kites rise against the wind not with it.
