The latest news coming out of the Las Vegas shooting is the debate over the timeline. Investigators are disputing the sequence of events in increments of five minutes here, two minutes there…which I would point out simply reinforces the message that minutes are critical when dealing with a mass shooting. Otherwise, what difference would it make if the timeline were off by a couple of minutes when analyzing the crime, and the response to it?
The difference is what many of us already know…that even a few short minutes variance in the time it takes to identify and respond to an active killer is of the utmost importance. Investigators are agonizing over minutes because they know that cutting even a minute off of the time which a spree killer is free to murder translates into lives saved.
Fewer minutes mean fewer dead. The sooner a good person with a gun arrives, the sooner the killing stops.
