Warrior Course by IsraeliTactical.com

Israeli tactical class

March 8, 2014 | Posted in Firearms, Training | By

Back in February, I got a chance to observe a training program and system created by a former Israeli officer here in Maryland. I was impressed. Are you tired of just shooting paper targets?

I would like to introduce to you a new program called the Warrior Course by IsraeliTactical.com

It’s a complete self defense system that will include Krav Maga, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and point shooting techniques taught by experts in those fields complete with shooting learned from defending Israel from terrorist. The program is dynamic, fun and applicable for those of you tired of the same old same old. More importantly, it could save your life.

The program is progressive will build until you are actively engaged in a heart pounding, adrenaline dumping, but safe scenarios to get you to test yourself and prepare for the future.

The objective of this training is give you real world skills, test yourself in a safe environment, challenge you to act quickly and accurately and provide you with the skills necessary to protecting yourself and your loved ones when under attack in the home environment or in public.

Here’s a sneak peak. https://vimeo.com/86755603

WARRIOR COURSE – PICTURES from Israeli Tactical School on Vimeo.

The student will be attacked from all directions by multiple attackers. You will then need to disarm all edge weapons, and run through a ring of “linebackers” that function as if they are part of a panicked crowd.
Exhausted, the student will then proceed as fast as he/she can to the a live fire Active Shooter scenarios. The student runs through the CQB set and our amazing Movement Tactical Shooting© video.

You will conduct dynamic live fire room clearing, decision making in a hostage/friend-under-threat situation, home invasion, airport/mall/school/crowded place scenario, in addition to using skills already mastered in previous stages (TACs 1 to 3) – such as safety, mags change, gun malfunction, multiple attackers and more.

The challenge is to act quickly and accurately, while changing magazines and clearing rooms. You will have to rely on your training to take the shot (aiming at the attacker and sparing the hostage), and with the right mindset break the attackers plan, neutralizing them as fast as possible through by Krav Maga and/or tactical shooting.

Home self-defense is a very close range conflict, and decisions need to be made in in split seconds. You know that your gun can only go so far in this setting. In order to face threat more effectively, you’ll need to learn basic elements of unarmed self defense. Here you will be taught elements of Krav Maga, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Are you up for it?

First Look at Israeli Tactical School

Israeli Tactical 2

February 6, 2014 | Posted in Training | By

Last Saturday I got a chance to take a class put on by a veteran of the Israeli Army that taught beginning concepts of shooting defensively Israeli style.  The instructor served twenty years as a Captain in the Israeli Defense Forces and as a chief security officer in the Israeli Foreign office.

In his early army career, he served in the Israeli Delta Force, specializing in operations behind enemy lines and hostage rescue.

I was more than curious.  I had seen these guys in operation.  I had studied how they have handled active shooters, terrorism and executive protection.  This was a group of people that fight every day.  They have been defending themselves since a man named Moses came back from a mountain named Sinai.

I respect the Israelis, immensely.  They are like Texans.  Instead of remember the Alamo, these guys say Never Forget.  They have a different approach to active shooters, profiling bad guys and handling threats.  We could learn from them.

You will need the basics of gun handling and safety.  You will also need good mindset and willingness to learn because the concepts demonstrated are not static like we are used to. ”

The lead instructor, Tomer says, “We don’t just teach how to shoot without missing, we teach students the point-shooting technique, meaning: shooting without relying on gun sights”. “Even in the beginner TAC class we implement the mindset and skills to fight and take the initiative; we teach to make correct decisions, how to surprise and deceive, and to attack only when the moment is right.  We teach not to hesitate but to act aggressively. Constant repetition and skill reinforcement help develop the muscle memory and confidence required to react.  And you don’t need to be black-belt or be a Navy Seal to do that.”

Last weekend:

  • I learned how to draw and fire Israeli style.
  • I learned the basics of point shooting.
  • I saw how Krav Maga concepts are instituted into shooting.
  • I saw beginners successfully catch on in a short time.

If you want to go nuts and immerse yourself in this style and technique there is a class being offered in Las Vegas soon.  Details are below.

Negroes And The Gun – episode 358

Negroes and the Gun

January 23, 2014 | Posted in black man with a gun podcast | By

One of the cool things about putting myself out into the cosmos as the Black Man With A Gun (knowing I am not the only one) is that I have had the honor of meeting just about everybody of color that is involved in the Second Amendment.

Here is a book from Nick Johnson a professor at Fordham Law School and a graduate of Harvard Law School just published. I have been checking it out since December. You must get a copy!

Nick is an author of Firearms Law and the Second Amendment: Regulation, Rights and Policy, that I met twenty years ago. This book, however, chronicles the under appreciated black tradition of bearing arms for self-defense, this book presents an array of examples reaching back to the pre—Civil War era that demonstrate a willingness of African American men and women to use firearms when necessary to defend their families and communities.

From Frederick Douglass’s advice to keep “a good revolver” handy as defense against slave catchers to the armed self-protection of Monroe, North Carolina, blacks against the KKK chronicled in Robert Williams’s Negroes with Guns, it is clear that owning firearms was commonplace in the black community.

But Wait there is more!

But before all of the above happens long time friend, Massad Ayoob and I discuss Back Up Guns (BUG) and  have the final conversation about revolvers in the month long series.  Revolvers are back!

In Maryland, target shooting-related spending contributed $168,132,421 to the state’s economy and supported 1,505 jobs.

Retail sales related to target shooting account for nearly $10 billion, with rifle and handgun shooting being the leading contributors, followed by shotgun and muzzleloader shooting. California and Texas are the top two states ranked by retail sales.

Combining data from Target Shooting in America and Hunting in America shows that target shooters and hunters together poured more than $110 billion into the nation’s economy, fueling more than 866,000 jobs.

Target shooters ($8.2 billion) and hunters ($8.4 billion) spend nearly equal amounts on equipment common to both pursuits, such as firearms, ammunition and accessories. Hunters spend more overall than target shooters when factors such as fuel, food, lodging and transportation are included.

The High Speed Low Drag Week – 346

Vehicles at ISI

November 1, 2013 | Posted in black man with a gun podcast | By

Episode 346 Black Man With A Gun Show

This week I got the opportunity to attend the first tactical Operators Day at G4S International Training, inc.  It was in Shacklefords, Va.  Its one of those really nice places the government can send you to training in counterterrorism operations, driver and advanced firearms skills.  The place has two driving courses both on and off road, three firearms ranges, with a ballistic shoot house, four classrooms, and plenty of places you can get the stuff knocked out of you under adult supervision.

 Vehicles at ISI

There were a few vendors there, TSSI was a co-host of this year’s event.  Don Wright and I hit it off pretty good.  Don is part of the TSSI’s success story.

I soon became a fan of master instructors Tim Peck and Brandon Wright.  I hope Brandon will take me under his wing and actually get me up to speed again.  The dude is a shooter and a heck of a technical driver.

 Wright and Peck

The turn out was probably lighter than expected based on the leftover donuts but enough came out to the one-day event aimed at networking for law enforcement and military types that have to do what has to be done in the gravest extremes.

I met some cool people like veteran journalist Christian Lowe that shared some insight on the freelance writing world and had some encouraging words for me.  I met and found a brother in the owner of Barnes Precision Machine.  That dude is cool.

 Andrew Barnes

We talked about life, business and real stuff.  I am really glad folks slept on all the knowledge he was sharing cause it left more for me to soak up.  I think he is prior special forces and has made some serious improvements on the AR-15. We had a great conversation about the .30 caliber round, which led to him showing me his .300 blackout cartridge, rifle and process. He recently went hunting with the .300 blackout cartridge and took down a beautiful deer.  Both rifle and deer seen here.

Deer and .300 blackoutTssi-Ops.com, Armored Vehicle rescue equipment, breaching training, tactical camera systems from Jeff at Zistos.com and some not so happy stuff that had to do with disaster response and mortuary issues. MortuaryResponse.com

I got a chance to hang out with a senior special agent for the VA Dept of Alcoholic Beverage Control, and he told me some stories about moonshiners that I didn’t even know was still happening in the hills of ol Virginny.

I owe it all to my sisters at Laura Burgess Marketing for the initial introductions to my new friends at ITI or none of this would have occurred.
