MINOT, N.D. — A 29-year-old Minot woman stopped an attempted burglary at her home by confronting the man with a handgun after he had hit her in the face and knocked her down a stairway in her home in northeast Minot.

Minot police said the unidentified woman told officers she had stepped outside just before 7 p.m. Wednesday night to tend to her dog when she was hit in the face with a blunt object that knocked her down the stairs back inside her home.

The suspect then entered her home, but ran off after the victim managed to get the gun from a nearby gun cabinet and aimed it at him.

The woman, who owns the home in the 700 block of 12th St. NE, said she could only identify the intruder to be a male.

She did not need medical attention, police said. The case is under investigation.
