Armed Citizen Story: Suspect shot during reported home invasion in Palermo, CA 9/23/2016

The incident began about 12:45 a.m., when the Butte County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call reporting a home invasion that was in progress in the 7400 block of Gene Lane, according to a press release.

Once deputies arrived they found an unresponsive suspect, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to the release.

The suspect was flown to a local hospital for treatment, and his identity remained unknown, according to the release.

Detectives, through a preliminary investigation, learned that the suspect approached the home and began shooting at the home’s occupants, according to the release.

One of the occupants returned fire, striking the suspect at least once.

The identities of the occupants — who were described as victims by the Sheriff’s Office — were not released because of safety concerns.

The shooting remains under investigation.
